History

Established in 2015.
Since his very first job tossing pizzas at 16, S&G owner, Joel R., dreamed of opening his own restaurant. After a decade of food experience while putting himself through college, he spent another decade finance and high-tech sales, never losing sight of his goal. In 2014, while looking for a commerical kitchen to support a growing wing-catering business, he found a local taco joint for sale and built a family-run grub joint for he and his son's to operate.
Stewart & Grub is housed in a googie architecture original, once home to one of the first 'Orange Julius' in the country. At a time when it's more common to convert a small place into a taco stand, they fully restored and upgraded this once famed local landmark as a tribute to Downey's historic entreprenurial start-ups. In a space smaller than the standard American garage, they can pump out loads of great grub daily: wings, burgers, fries, and classic American faire.

So-Cal born and raised, Joel R. went to high school and college locally and has done practically every job in the food business from serving to line cook, even manager at such places as: Dominos, Pizza Hut, El Pollo Loco, UCLA food service, El Torito, and Claim Jumper.
Always the cook in the clan, Joel invested more than a decade in corporate sales and finance - meanwhile collecting menus, researching ideas, and experimenting in the kitchen - honing the business skills and confidence to one day open a place he could be proud of. After a 6 month restoration, done largely with his own hands (with the huge support of his family and friends), Joel's dream finally came true - grub style.

  Food was delicious! The handmade drinks were really good (should have requested light ice). The menu had good options to choose from, though it was difficult to tell what was included on each because there wasn't much detail.

  My problem was I orderd to go and I came because of the pictures of thick bun on google. When orderd to go the stewart burger was wrapped up and the bun shrunk.so.. I orderd another one and ate it their and it was 5.
